Fluxus Haus

A nonprofit organization

Agatha Wright, Founder of Fluxus Haus Inc., established the organization in 2015. At the time, Ms. Wright held a position as Director of Operations at University Center for the Performing Arts. Using the facility as the springboard for developing community-based work, Agatha recognized a need to provide creative assistance and opportunity for artists in the geographic region. Fluxus curated two dance concerts between 2015-2016: The Contemporary Concert Series and The Sweet Escape Dance Sampler.

In 2017, Fluxus Dance presented a series of works highlighting societal inequities. Pound of Flesh was created to expose the growing illegal sex trafficking industry in Miami, the third-largest globally. The work was presented at the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, Perez Art Museum Miami, and Muse Center for the Arts. In 2018 Fluxus Haus created Diaphanous and Digital Generation. These works spoke to the dangers of social media- particularly regarding youth.

In 2019 Fluxus Haus produced Manufactured Reality showcasing the work of architectural photographer NOUMENA, Fluxus Dance, & DJ Allen Richards. The relationship fostered during the collaboration would lead to the evolution of Fluxus Music- a branch of the organization focused on providing representation and mentorship for artists working in the music industry.

In July of 2020, following the death of George Floyd, Fluxus Haus premiered the dance project- Movement for Justice. This year's iteration of Movement for Justices provides local artists a platform to develop their choreographic voice while also learning critical skills associated with becoming active community members. Using the performing arts as a catalyst for social change, 2 community liaisons will be paired with six emerging and mid-career dance artists to produce a final, culminating piece - Pilgrimage. This work explores geographic displacement and it's effects on community building.

Mission

Fluxus Haus is a 501 (c) 3 that provides marginalized artists educational, curatorial, and performance opportunities through artistic mentorship, formal training, and financial support services. By connecting emerging and mid-career artists with established networks through strategic partnerships, Fluxus bridges the gap between access and disproportion.

Our demographic of participants include artists from the LGBTQIA community, independent artists, Black and African Americans, and geographically and economically vulnerable populations.

Fluxus Dance presents socially relevant performances to utilize art as the catalyst for activism and inclusion. Up to date, eleven original dance works have been created covering racism in America, sex trafficking, data collection and privacy, female empowerment, the effects of social media on youth, and geographic displacement.
